JOMBA! guest and Finnish Lighting Designer Nanni Vapaavuori will hold a workshop for dancers and choreographers to explore and experiment with dance lighting on stage using different materials and their movement. Nanni Vapaavuori works with light and space, in direct hands-on collaboration with the concrete tactile material/ity of the light. She shifts the focus of her work from the distanced observer to a touching distance, working where the light happens. Somewhat in the same way that one might say that someone works “hands on clay”, she has worked a lot “hands in the light”.

1. The first part of the workshop will introduce the basics of classical stage lighting. The different directions of light on stage will be experimented from three different participant roles: performer, audience and lighting designer.

1. The second part of the workshop will provide an insight into the interaction between movement, light and materials. It will focus on concrete experiments and improvisations, exploring with reflective properties of different materials.

The aim of the workshop is to encourage participants to experiment freely with light, using the materials around them in a creative and open-minded way.

Participation in the workshop free and is based on interest and does not require previous experience in lighting.
