Through religion, culture, beliefs, traditions, my society has always tried to impose borders and boundaries onto the bodies of the young generations. The youth have socially inherited these boundaries through generational bondages, curses and spiritual sacrifices. I have made this dance film looking at breaking free from psychological and spiritual bonds, and cultural and traditional expectations and judgements.
Sinethemba Khuzwayo was born at eShowe in a rural area called uMlalazi at the region of KwaMpehlela, in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. She then moved to Durban to pursue her secondary education. She joined Mhayise Production’s Movement Laboratory in 2016 to gain training in dance and choreography. While training with the Movement Lab she got a chance to be in a few of the lab’s works choreographed by Musa Hlatshwayo (the director of the company). She recently featured in a music video by Dr Thokozani Mhlambi.
