Dai Matsuoka has been performing with Sankai Juku since 2005, and has appeared in some of their major works including Kinkan Shonen, Tobari, Unetsu, and ARC. Matsuoka is the founder and director of LAND FES since 2011, a non-profit organisation that has the purpose of promoting diversity and inclusion through performing arts. Iungo – Encounter Tokyo connects 8 dancers with mixed backgrounds. They casually meet each other on a bench in a public place and from there starts an encounter of minds, bodies and hearts. This piece is based on a choreographic format that Adriaan Luteijn has developed for Introdans from the Netherlands called The Encounters. This piece was created with the incredible input of the cast, and made in a short and intensive working period with Luteijn in Tokyo in January 2024, and produced by LAND FES.

LAND FES DIVERSITY Fukagawa is a project in which dancers and participants, regardless of disability, age and nationality, work together to create video works in Fukagawa, Tokyo. In 2021, we held workshops and shootings in the local area directed by 7 different contemporary dancers, in which the participants tried out various dance practices and created a lot of communication through their bodies. The complete video is full of the charm of Fukagawa and the dance that connects people together.
This work is supported by the Arts Council Tokyo Tokyo Metropolitan Foundation for History and Culture, Cooperated by: Iine Morishita, Daisuke Uzunami, gift, Yuta Hirai, Naoko Matsushima, NPO Acceptions.
